Peace Corps 50th Anniversary Celebration, Washington, DC, Sept. 21-25, 2011.
On Sunday morning, September 25, 2011, the attendees at the 50th Anniversary Celebration gathered in the amphitheater at Arlington Cemetery for a memorial service to honor the Peace Corps Volunteers who died during their service. [photo by Katy Hansen]
Following the memorial service thousands of RPCVs participated in a march from Arlington Cemetery to the Lincoln Memorial. Here is the National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) contingent. [photo by Katy Hansen]
Approximately 100 Nigeria RPCVs and friends made up the Friends of Nigeria contingent in the march. Various members of the group served as flag bearers. Here Katy Hansen and Akintade Aboaba are carrying the flag. Akin was a student at the Ibadan Grammar School during Katy's tenure there. [photo by Katy Hansen]
